Book Report

Book Report Blog
I read an amazing book called The Library Card. Jerry Spinelli wrote the book. It has four stories and they were all good but my favorite one was the first one.The story is about 2 best friends that  steal and draw graffiti around town. They made up names for them selves Weezel and Mongoose. The things I wrote and analyzed about were the authors biography, setting, plot, climax, characters, internal conflict, favorite part, theme and genre. For more information look at the chart below.

The Corn Grows Ripe

Corn Grows Ripe

By Dorothy Rhoads

In a Mayan village close to a forest there is a boy called Dionisio. His nickname is Tigre(jaguar), because he looks like a jaguar , he is curious and he loves nature and education. His village believes that mystical creatures roam the forest. He is lazy because his parents spoiled him after his three brothers died. He wakes up late and everyone has already done the chores. His dad goes to the corn field every day to get it ready.

One day Tigre finds out his dad broke a leg. Now he had to do all the man work alone. He goes on a journey to the head village for a doctor. The doctor doesn’t help much. Tigre goes to the cornfield at the morning and at night he goes to the teacher. His dad is getting sick and the hens are dying. Tigre looks inside the chicken coop and finds a vampire bat. Tigre had to burn the fields himself because his uncle could not come to help. The Corida is happening; it is when someone goes inside a ring with a bull. He starts making the rope but gives up for a while. He goes back to making the rope and finishes it; it wasn’t the best but not the worst. Visitors come to the village and everything was crowded. There are many ceremonies and festivals. The rain season was coming so everyone went to plant their seeds. Chan Tata a baby had his ceremony and grandma and grandpa circled him with nine items he will need in his life. Grandpa gave Tigre a gun. There was a drought and Tigre’s great grandma was telling stories of droughts. The people made a rain ceremony and everyone was there except Tigre’s dad. Then it rained and everyone was happy. Tigre’s dad went with him to harvest the corn and the corn was ripe.

When the main events happened Tigre was only a 12 year old boy. He had to make the choice of becoming a real man or staying the lazy selfish boy he was. He chooses the role of an adult and succeeds.
